Marlys - RN, BSN, CCM
President/CEO

Marlys has over twenty-five years’ experience in case management and is the founder and president of SCM Associates, Inc. In 1992, she was the first recipient of the Case Management Society of America’s Case Manager of the Year award. She has served CMSA in multiple roles including local and national president. Marlys has provided consulting services to many private and public health insurers. She is a published author and a frequent lecturer who has represented the field of case management on television and in video. Marlys is an active Rotarian, volunteering in the local community.

Carla - RN, BS, CCM
Manager of Case Management

Carla is a Certified Case Manager with over 27 years of clinical and supervision/management experience in nursing practice including critical care nursing, utilization management, quality assurance, home health care, and case management. Her case management focus has been high risk diseases and chronic pain. She joined the SCM Associates case management team in 2010. When she is not working she enjoys reading, crafts, and creative arts.


 

Elle - RN, BSN
Case Manager

Elle has been a practicing nurse for over 30 years, and she joined SCM in 2008. Elle has combined experience in the field of critical care, surgery, and psychiatry and she currently works with catastrophic workers’ compensation and chronic pain cases. She has a keen awareness of the mind-body connection and has studied alternative forms of medicine. In her free time, she enjoys meditation and yoga.


 

Kelly - RN, BSN, CCM
Case Manager

Kelly has served in consulting, management and educational roles throughout her more than 40 years in the nursing profession. She is a Certified Case Manager with experience in critical care and case management, and she specializes in working with individuals who have sustained catastrophic injuries such as spinal cord and brain injury. Kelly has been with SCM since 2004, and her time away from work is often spent on her bicycle or sailboat.


 

Connie - RN, BS, CCM
Case Manager

Connie’s bachelor’s degree in business marketing led her into work as a product manager and an account manager in the disability management field, and she then worked as an intensive care nurse. Since becoming a case manager in 1989, she has managed catastrophic workers’ compensation cases, and she enjoys their complexity due to her strong critical care background. Connie became a Certified Case Manager in 1993 and joined SCM in 2008.


 

Janis - RN, BSN, CCM
Case Manager

Jan’s experience ranges from establishing a pilot program for catastrophic medical and mental health cases through a breadth of clinical specialization, supervision, and client consultation services in plan development, design, and education, as well as in program viability and fiscal impact—to name only a few of her accomplishments. She is a recipient of CCM’s prestigious Patricia McCollum Scholarship Award for commitment to education of the professional case manager. At SCM, Jan is a case manager for catastrophic and chronic pain cases. She says the opportunity to take an active role in assisting a client through an illness or injury is what makes her “tick.”


 

Virginia - RN, CCM, CNLCP
Case Manager

Gini is a Certified Case Manager and Certified Nurse Life Care Planner with over 40 years’ experience in Nursing. She joined SCM in 2009. Gini’s clinical background includes: Medical/ Surgical; Critical Care; Emergency Department; OB/Gyn; Psychiatry; and House Supervision. She became a Case Manager in 1983, and developed an interest in catastrophic injuries, which led to certification as a Nurse Life Care Planner in 2005. Gini enjoys spending time with her three grandkids in the beautiful Hawaiian outdoors.


 

Patricia - RN, CCM
Case Manager

Patricia graduated from the Nursing Program at Chapman University and has worked as a Registered Nurse since 1986. During her career I worked in Ambulatory care for 15 years, and eventually transitioned to be the Director of Nurses and the Director of Ancillary. She has worked in Acute Care Hospitals as a nurse on the Surgical floor, ICU and CCU. She was an admitting nurse in the Newborn Nursery and worked on the Mother\Baby Unit in an Orange County Hospital. She has also worked as a Patient Care Coordinator for a Hospice and a Home Health Care Agency. I was a Utilization Review Nurse for 7 years for a National Health Insurance company. For the past 5 years I have worked as a Nurse Case Manager and I have my CCM. I recently retired from full-time employment but continue to work part-time covering appointments as a Field Case Manager for SCM Associates and Paradigm.


 

Pamela
Case Management Administrative Assistant

Pamela has been with SCM since 2014. As a Case Management Administrative Assistant, Pamela works closely with the case management department manager and helps input case manager notes, create invoices, and generate reports. She is also the editor–in-chief of the company newsletter, which she initiated. In her spare time, Pamela loves participating in many arts activities. She loves the theater and film, and is even learning how to play her fourth instrument.


 

Fernando
Case Management Administrative Assistant

Fernando joined SCM in early 2015 as a Credentialing Assistant. In Late 2016 Fernando was promoted to Case Management Administrative Assistant where he spends much of his day working closely with Nurse Case Managers with completing transportation and /or authorizations requests and requesting medical records. When away from work, Fernando enjoys gardening, cooking, and Gym time.


 

BUSINESS OPERATIONS


 

Phil
Director of Operations

Phil joined the SCM Management team in 2017 as Director of Operations. He has previously been in business operations for over 18 years for world-class companies like Target, Starbucks, and most recently FedEx. Phil obtained his Bachelors of Science degree from Cal State Fullerton in 2008.Throughout his experience, he has focused on developing teams, being a leader, coach, and a mentor. He enjoys working to improve business performance, quality, and efficiency. When not at work, Phil spends his time with his wife and kids.


 

Nick
Manager of IT & Projects

Nick joined SCM Associates in early 2015 initially as the Business Ops Coordinator but eventually settling into the role as Manager of IT & Projects. Since receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, he has worked on a broad scope of business and IT projects influencing infrastructure and operational efficiency for various companies. His current role aids and supports the growth of SCM Associates through various projects ranging from database tools, security, and general desktop support. In his spare time Nick enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, and staying active.


 

Kathy
Business Operations Consultant

Kathy has broad experience over four decades managing business “infrastructure” in both non-profit and for-profit organizations. Since retiring from her 15-year role as SCM’s business manager, she continues to provide insights and project support on an as needed-basis. Kathy’s outside interests include training fellow childbirth educators and other birth workers through writing and speaking, serving as a professional doula (or labor assistant), and spending as much time as possible with her grandchildren.


 

Linda
Business Operations Administrative Assistant

Linda joined SCM in 2012. Primarily, Linda functions as the office administrative assistant and bookkeeper, although her versatility encompasses a greater range of administrative work. She is particularly appreciated as a gifted staff party planner. In her spare time Linda enjoys spending time with her family, cooking a great meal, or enjoying a book. She will tell you she loves to work, but we know she also secretly looks forward to her yearly family trip to Hawaii.
